Data for Construction and Infrastructure: Topcon’s Solutions Take the Stage at GEO Business 2019

It’s been a busy two days at GEO Business in London, and the Topcon team has had a great time making new connections and catching up with clients.

Data has been the key topic of conversation as visitors to the Topcon stand looked for solutions to capture and unlock the potential of their project data, as well as streamline workflows and ensure efficiency and productivity on site.

Our experts shared their insights and knowledge in the seminars and workshops taking place today, sparking great conversations about the future of the construction industry.

To start the day, Adam Box, business development manager for vertical construction, took part in the Architecture, Construction and Engineering seminar. Adam discussed what he believes is the biggest challenge the industry is facing – profit. With new entities like Google and Amazon entering the construction space, Adam urged those listening to consider how they operate, echoing the infamous Farmer Review: Modernise or Die.

In the afternoon, Levi Brown, vertical construction manager, led a workshop on structural health monitoring, highlighting the benefits of connected and automated monitoring systems, particularly for projects surrounded by existing infrastructure.

Topcon’s Andy Clifton, applications engineer, joined the highways seminar later in the day and explained how productivity can be dramatically improved through both the incorporation of 4D (time) and 5D (cost) into the project workflow, and how this can enable full collaboration in the BIM modelling environment.

Chris Emery, senior manager for vertical construction, said: “It has been a great event for Topcon and for me, personally – I have no business cards left and a sore throat!

“We’ve been showcasing our brand-new vertical construction workflow, particularly our GTL-1000.  The team has received lots of questions and it’s been great to see how impressed visitors are by our latest innovations. We’ve also had lots of engagement with our interactive tech wall and our other technologies on the stand.

“We’re already looking forward to next year, and we’re particularly looking forward to delivering software and product solutions to those who’ve visited us at GEO Business over the next 12 months.”
