TOPCON SHOWCASES LATEST IN AUTOMATED GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGY AT GEO BUSINESS

Topcon launched the Intersection of Infrastructure and Technology campaign last year, which is focused on supporting the industry to evolve working methods and embrace technology, to meet the growing demands for creating and maintaining the world’s infrastructure.

This was the focus for Topcon at GEO business 2018. Part of bringing this vision to life included a four-metre virtual reality dome, which put visitors inside the data of real life projects. The immersive point cloud workspace used Topcon MAGNET Collage software to showcase datasets from both infrastructure and structural construction projects.

MAGNET Collage enables interpretation of both geo-referenced images and point clouds from any source — whether it is mobile, static, aerial, from either lidar or via photogrammetric methods, or both.

Talks covered topics such as the Topcon collaboration with Autodesk on installation verification, a surveying project in Antarctica to construct blue ice runways and using monitoring systems to extend the life of infrastructure assets.

Dave Bennett, managing director at Topcon Positioning GB and Ireland, said, “The construction industry is at a tipping point. There’s more pressure than ever for new and updated infrastructure assets, but a deficit within the budgets, time and skills required to meet this demand.

“GEO Business offered a great opportunity for us to meet and network with customers and the wider industry to showcase how new ways of working and innovative technology can help us to meet the current and future needs placed on the industry.”
