Topcon takes part in Women in Construction Online Summit

Last month we were delighted to get the chance to virtually connect with others in the industry at the Women in Construction World Series Online Festival, despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic disrupting events across the sector. At the event, there was lots of discussion about how we can build a more inclusive industry and sharing of tips for improving on-site productivity.

It’s no secret that construction remains a male-dominated industry, however, at Topcon, we are committed to working with our customer, dealer and partner networks to address this gender imbalance and champion the inspirational women currently working in construction.

Not only did we enjoy listening to the thought-provoking talks given by other members of the sector, but Topcon’s very own Diane Michalon, Business Development Manager for OEM and UAV/Inspection at Topcon Positioning EMEA, and Tasso Zoeteweij, Professional Services at Topcon Positioning EMEA formed part of the exciting speaker line-up, too.

Demonstrating the common problems with construction site mapping, the team from Topcon offered valuable insight into how the industry can increase productivity on the construction site. Looking at the power of UAV mapping and inspection, Diane and Tasso explained how this can be used to help overcome some of the issues in construction site mapping, while also creating a more efficient workflow - increasing project productivity and accuracy.

Exploring the benefits of having a full suite of project management tools at your fingertips, the team also looked at a real-life Topcon example on an impressive road-building project in the Netherlands, which uses a combination of drones, laser scanning and mobile mapping. Using technology like this vastly improves productivity and, as a result, can help to bring projects ahead of schedule as was the case in Topcon’s recent Norway roads project.

While we weren’t able to attend in-person, the three-day event was a huge success and we loved hearing advice from others in the industry as well as sharing our own insight on how to increase productivity in construction. As we try to accelerate recovery in construction at this uncertain time, it’s more important than ever that we collaborate and take inspiration from those brilliant minds leading the way.
